Slow-making Locally by Annette Nykiel | Rockingham Arts Centre

Annette Nykiel’s Slow-making Locally exhibition consists of fibre and repurposed textile works which have been stitched, woven, dyed or printed with local plant materials. The exhibition has a strong focus on colours that have been produced from green waste. There is a long history of plant dyeing, botanical printing and basketry that is currently experiencing a revival. These traditional practices of dyeing, printing and basketry are informed by the continuing research into the properties of Western Australian plant species, both native and introduced.

A pop-up market will also be held as part of this exhibition on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 July from 10am to 4pm in the multifunction room at the Rockingham Arts Centre.

Join Annette for her free artist talk on Sunday 23 July from 11.30am.

  • Exhibition dates: Wednesday 19 July to Sunday 13 August 2023
  • Opening times: 10am – 4pm, Wednesday to Sunday
