Most people know that the coast comes to life in Rockingham, but so does the countryside!
A semi-rural suburb, Baldivis is a quick 10-minute drive from Rockingham foreshore – or 35 minutes down the Kwinana Freeway if you’re heading down by car from Perth. While residential development abounds, the area is still well-known for its Tuart trees and welcoming country vibe.
If you’re looking for things to do in Perth in the school holidays, you can easily fill a weekend with fun activities in Baldivis, especially if you have kids. That being said, we’ve worked out the best things for you and your family to do – some of which are free!
Baldivis Children’s Forest
Baldivis Children’s Forest is a unique 20-hectare public reserve, located approximately 50 kilometres south of Perth. Created and maintained as a bushland reserve for kids to enjoy, it contains tuart woodlands and a conservation category wetland. Local students have played a key role in establishing plants indigenous to the area – providing a natural and safe habitat for a whole range of animal, reptile and bird species. If you and your family are visiting in winter, just be sure to wear your gumboots. Note: the electric BBQ beside the outdoor area is also free to use!
Playgrounds
In terms of entertaining the kids, Baldivis is a playground mecca. First up, Brightwood Adventure Park is set to keep your littles one occupied with climbing frames, slides, a flying fox, outdoor fitness equipment, AFL goals, a BBQ area, swings, nature play and a scooter/bike track. The Millars Landing Steamrail Adventure Playground has a steam train and water tower theme and features flying foxes, a 12-metre slide, a climb-on train, swings and picnic facilities. Last but not least, the Rivergums Adventure Park is nature-based adventure playground that includes a climbing structure, slide, monkey bars, musical play and balance logs.
